Using apostille asked for a country X in a country Y

Normally when you request an apostille you have to say in which country this apostille will be used in.

So my question is: is there any problem if you use an apostille which you asked for a certain country, in another country?

I think is no problem because in the "apostille" it's not written "this must be used for this country", but I would like to hear what do you think.

    Thanks.

Not sure though! my guess is you can only it in a country where it is meant to be used for. Ask for with the notaries in the court and they might know!

  • The reason you are asked to specify the country is because the countries on the Haig Convention list require Apostilles and the ones that are not on the list require Certifications. (note) For several years the State of California printed the "country requested for", on their Apostilles. This practice has recently ended.

I have a friend who was born in Los Angeles and currently resides in Mexico City. He is disabled and cannot travel to the states. He is being requested his birth certificate with an Apostille. How can this be done if he is not in good health to travel to the states. Can a friend in CA help him get this document? Can a power of attorney from Mexico City for him be valid here in CA to obtain the Apostille?
    Thanks!
